About the Author
Gernot Schmied is an independent consultant, analyst, and researcher located in Vienna, Austria, focusing on systems integration, networking, UNIX, and security. He has worked several years in enterprise and Internet service provider (ISP) environments with a focus on senior engineering and architecture projects, service, and portfolio development. Gernot is interested in the evolution of (G)MPLS, IP over Optical and photonic networking, electrical engineering, and physics in general. In addition to engineering and research, he enjoys martial arts, tennis, outdoor activities, cooking, and eating well. Gernot holds two master degrees in applied physics and information systems and is currently working on his Ph.D. thesis in his "spare" time. Gernot can be contacted at gernot.schmied@iktech.net.
